GLENBROOK - Where the search for superior production will never end.

You have reached the record pages for the GLENBROOK Jersey Stud.

Also listed are some records for the Jersey Breed in New Zealand. These are unofficial. These pages are being updated all the time at present as we work to get the information online. We have put a number of photos of cows on various pages. These are mainly from a number of years ago but hopefully we will get some up to date photos some time in the near future..

Seasons production included above. Had a 6.1% herd test for fat. 6.5% at factory and next day was a 6.8% so are still way behind for season. Crepe was called a 3year old by the LIC.
17th March
Calving finished. 12 cows in with 6 heifer calves and 6 bull calves. Last of hay in yesterday. Most we have ever made and easily the longest to get it in. Cows milking well at present. Febuary finished 125% ahead of last year and from now on its all more than last season as we were dry in Feb. last year. Over 10% ahead for the season at the factory now. Raining at present so looks good for rest of season. March herd test was mostly lead by the fresh cows and included some really good results.

CREPE broke all our 2 year old records for milk but I'm not sure if the LIC will call her a 2 or a 3 year old. Still she did a very good test.
21st Febuary
Autumn calving is underway with our first calf yesterday. As well our Febuary herd test was our second highest in the history of the herd. This season has been very poor with most of the herd tests being the low day for the month. As well our fat average has been .4% behind the factory so it was nice to have a good one. With good tests to the end of the season we could still end up with a good average. Have now caught up with last seasons total production as we were dry at the end of Febuary last year.

7th February
Hopefully will update most pages today. We have a number of Autumn calving cows due soon which will be something new for us. Rainfall well ahead of last year at this time. Production still behind last season for total but last year we only milked another 10 days so will fly ahead very shortly.
4th February
Finally got back to this. Latest herd test results above. Having trouble with the editor as you can see. Try and fix it soon.
4th November                                                                                                                                                        Rain for October 186mm. Best for 24 months. Production about same as last year for october. Fencepost still has 3 days missing from our production for oct.
Classification. Had another good year. 6 VHC, 1 HC and 15 A. The Commando's got 3 VHC and 1 HC for the 4 four year olds. Battle Cry went down again but has good traits and type so may still be okay.
26th October
Sorry its been a while since I put anything here. Baby doing very well. We have had heaps of rain this month and have heaps of grass which is awesome. Battle Cry went down to 126 BW but there is still lots of time for him to go back up again. We had one real bad day with horrible weather. You guessed it the herd test day. The herd test is on our lowest day at the factory for this month.

Some great milk records in this test.
5th October
Had baby today. Little girl weighing 9lb 8 oz. Mother and daughter both well.
Cows finished 9% down on last year for september and 13% down for season. Our rolling 12mths rain total is just under 800mm. In 1999 we had 1330mm so we are a lot down on that. At present we are very dry like December or January weather. Herd test on 10th and cows are just under 20 litres so hopefully they will go up a little for herd test. In first 5 days of AI we have had 19 cows bulling out of 57 in herd.
Our herd has 15 2 year olds and 15 3 year olds in the herd so they are doing well.
2nd October
Another 2 cows gone. 1 through injury and 1 not in calf and sick. Still an old friend said the other day that we were in for the worst drought in recorded history so it might work out yet. Have just updated our bull proofs. Our bulls used here and line bred are breeding very well. have a look at bull proof pages. Good start to AI with 10 cows in first 2 days.
30th September
3 dead cows in last 3 days and 5 this month is not a record we wanted to set but thats what has happened. So thats 6 this season. The worst I can remember since I have been farming is 3 in a whole year before. As well we finished with 15mm rain for september. The lowest in living memory for september. The cows are milking well at present being just ahead of last year in milk at the factory. the tests are a lot lower and milk solids are lower. We start mating tomorrow. We hope that October will be a lot better than september has been.
26th September
Lost GLENBROOK SILVER CHOICE EX5 (9-9) today. Good news is that GLENBROOK BATTLE CRY is now 142 BW and climbing. Also we have a new record herd average for fat for New Zealand. Madeley Park did 323 Kg fat last season. Check out records section. only 15 mm rain so far this season. Probably lowest september ever. It's pretty dry here now.
19th September
Herd test results. Factory same day as test was a 5.4%fat test and a 3.9%protein test so a bit disappointing.
any way top 10 cows and 5 heifers on milk solids for season. Still 2 to calve and then its over till March.

14th September
Herd Test. Another bad one. Everything seems to going wrong lately so we must be due for some good news soon. We are a long way behind last year at present. 3 cows left to calve but we were supposed to be finished a couple of days ago.

4 out of 5 same top heifers as last month which is nice. CREME also made it into our top ten all time heifer milk records. Awesome.
4th September
Bad Week
We lost 2 cows this week including Glenbrook Silver Chime which was sad. 6 left to calve now and all the heifers in. Also ran out of pellets at the weekend and didn't enjoy milking with no pellets for the cows. Lost a lot of production but they seem to have bounced back quickly. We were 21% behind last year for August at the factory and 23% for the season. Had 115mm rain for August so last 3 months well ahead of last year which was needed very much.
28th August
Finally got some BW's etc. I have listed as top for m/s for season. The top cow and top heifer have not been given LW's by LIC so we have to wait for next month hopefully.

The best thing about the above lists is that 4 out 5 on both lists are by our own bulls and are line bred to the C family. Only 8 to calve now so are getting there.
20th August
Probably the worst weather we have had for the last 10 days. Not nice at all. Lots of places had snow in Taranaki. And we had a herd test in the middle of it. At least we haven't had many calves in last 10 days.

As you can see a very dry season here. An average of 1195mm for the past 9 seasons and possibly only 60% of that average for this season. The first 10 days of June we have had 8mm.
