New sires for 2014

GLENBROOK EMPEROR CATO

[ GLENBROOK CAMBOGE EMPEROR - GLENBROOK CONDUCT CANDLE VG 815 kgs ms ]

Cato is an Emperor son of one of the best young cows at Glenbrook in Glenbrook Conduct Candle VG

Her records are :

2-0 5458 litres 6.9% 376 kgs fat 4.3% 236 kgs ptn 613 kgs ms 302 days

3-0 6495 litres 7.1% 460 kgs fat 4.3% 277 kgs ptn 738 kgs ms 305 days

4-0 6632 litres 7.0% 464 kgs fat 4.4% 291 kgs ptn 756 kgs ms 305 days

5-0 7306 litres 6.8% 498 kgs fat 4.3% 317 kgs ptn 815 kgs ms 297 days

and has just calved this July again at 6-0

Her fat records in lbs are 829, 1014, 1023, 1098. Exceptional consistent production and fertility. Increasing very year. Her dam was Glenbrook Colonist Cheese EX with a top record of 735 kgs ms @ 7 years. One of the very few daughters by Glenbrook Czar Colonist, a great bull, sadly only used for a season here which helps make Cato an outcross choice bull. Candle's extreme tests help make Cato a great choice as a bull to breed from.

GLENBROOK EMPEROR CLAN

[ GLENBROOK CAMBOGE EMPEROR - GLENBROOK MAXIMUS CARON VG 696 kgs ms ]

Clan is an Emperor son of the top producing heifer for 2013-14 and the second highest producing heifer ever at Glenbrook in Glenbrook Maximus Caron VG.

Her record was :

2-0 6809 litres 5.9% 399 kgs fat 4.4% 297 kgs ptn 696 kgs ms 305 days

Taken not long after calving.

November 2013.

Two photos of Glenbrook Maximus Caron VG 696 kgs ms @ 2yrs

Caron's dam is the outstanding Glenbrook Czar Carnation VG 839 kgs ms

Carnation has always been a favourite of mine and is the longest cow in the herd - something I try to breed for - length means capacity - capacity means production. Her records are:

2-0 6288 litres 6.0% 377 kgs fat 4.5% 282 kgs ptn 659 kgs ms 303 days

3-0 7196 litres 6.4% 461 kgs fat 4.3% 309 kgs ptn 770 kgs ms 305 days

4-0 6986 litres 5.6% 391 kgs fat 4.5% 315 kgs ptn 706 kgs ms 305 days

5-0 7789 litres 6.2% 479 kgs fat 4.6% 360 kgs ptn 840 kgs ms 305 days

and has just calved again this July at 6-0.

Carnation is from an outstanding production branch of the 'C" family being a grand daughter of Glenbrook Cry Cottonseed 837 kgs ms @ 6 years and great grand daughter of Glenbrook Comet Cotton EX 777 kgs ms @ 11 years. Outstanding production has been bred into these bulls for 35 years.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A short history of the Glenbrook stud.

Glenbrook was founded in 1979 but the cow that has made the stud was purchased in 1980. Lamorna Rovers Brenda VHC, had 8 milking daughters at Glenbrook and founded the mighty "C' family here. Brenda was a great grand daughter of Big Hollow Choice Blondie VHC, New Zealand record priced cow at the Big Hollow dispersal sale. Blondie along with her dam Big Hollow Bourvardia were the two highest ever producing cows in the famous Big Hollow stud. At Glenbrook we believe there is a production gene that has been carried down from these cows and with the linebreeding programme carried out at Glenbrook has been intensified and refined now. Glenbrook was founded with the aim of reaching a 1000 lb [ 454 kg ] fat herd average. This has now upgraded to a 750 kgs ms herd average which is still the goal here. Glenbrook used bulls from all round the Jersey world in the early days to see how they worked in NZ conditions. The herd then used the highest genetics available and reached the number two herd in New Zealand at one stage. Glenbrook had some 19 bulls selected for AI sire proving programmes during these years with the outstanding Glenbrook Ocean Commando being the best preformed of these.

After many years of studying old Jersey catalogues, farming books and especially pedigrees of top producing cows it was felt that a system of line breeding would give the best results. This has now been followed for a number of years and is proving to be very successful. In recent years a number of Glenbrook sire have been collected privately and used like these two bulls offered to you now. The unusual aspect of Glenbrook breeding is that the herd is line bred to a cow family. The results speak for themselves with Glenbrook achieving the highest producing herd in New Zealand for any size in at least 9 seasons now since 1987-88 when Glenbrook first topped the nation for production. Numerous individual cows have topped New  Zealand, Taranaki and their age groups on many occasions.  The list of herd averages over 600 kgs ms includes Glenbrook achieving more than any other herd at this level.  In the just completed 2013-14 season Glenbrook Final Cosma VG 12,747 litres [ 28,872 lbs ] broke the all time milk record for a Jersey cow in New Zealand by over 1500 litres. Glenbrook Conduct Careen Vg, 8915 litres [ 20,192 lbs ] broke the all time record milk production from a two year old Jersey in New Zealand history. Glenbrook is delighted with these two records.

Glenbrook exceeded the New Zealand record for any size Jersey herd in the 2011-12 season with a RECORD herd average of 670 kgs ms per cow.  This was also the 4th highest herd in New Zealand of any breed. And more pleasing was the fact that GLENBROOK was the highest producing herd in the whole Southern Hemisphere in 2012. Glenbrook was the second highest herd in the Southern hemisphere for 2013 and also had the 3rd highest producing herd for any breed in New Zealand.

The Glenbrook entire milking herd was dispersed in October 2009 due to ill health and restarted up again in April 2010 with the remaining young stock and a few dry cows still retained. Glenbrook is a small herd on a small farm and milked by one man all year round. Split calving is carried out for 6 weeks twice a year in March and July. The cows are fed pellets in the bail at milking and grass. For most of the year they receive a procow [ mixture of DDG, PKE  and Molasses ] mix in the paddock and some hay with grass silage for  some months. The idea is to make feeding the cows as simple as possible. The Glenbrook herd is milked in a walkthrough cowshed , one of the last remaining of this type in Taranaki, indeed in New Zealand.

Glenbrook's breeding philosophy has always been to breed for production first, then temperament, longevity and type. Every heifer calf born on the property is expected to produce well into her teens. Lifetime production is the most profitable measure of any cow. Glenbrook is delighted to have three cows in the top twenty highest ever lifetime producers in New Zealand. Glenbrook bulls are noted for their daughters great temperament and management traits in addition to outstanding production.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All Glenbrook bulls are collected at Tararua Breeding Services and packed with 12-20 times the semen per straw compared to the major companies in NZ. This should give you better conception rates.

--------------------------------

Buy one sire or any combination of them.

All orders also subject to the transfer charges that all AB companies charge to transfer straws. Straws are stored at LIC and at Tararua Breeding Center and can be transferred from either to any AB company in New Zealand to suit purchaser - Straws may also be collected from Tararua - this also attracts a transfer fee. The transfer fee is normally around $28 + gst per transfer for within LIC transfers and is approx $100 + gst per transfer to CRV from LIC.  I have no choice in this - its what they charge and that will be passed on to the purchaser.

Export orders can be filled from all 5 bulls to pretty much every country except the EU.

There are straws of Glenbrook Camboge already in the USA and Australia - please email me for details. For 2014 these straws will also be $8NZ a straw.

For other bulls or other countries please be aware that it will cost several hundred NZ$ to ship the straws even with combining with another order so you should be buying  amounts in the hundreds of straws rather than small orders to spread the cost per straw. Purchasers will have to pay these export costs on top of straw costs and in most case we will require payment before shipment as most costs must be met before straws get on a plane. Contact me to see what we can work out and what costs may be entailed.

Please email with any questions you may have. Further pedigree information and extended pedigrees are available on request by email. Please ask.
